all our bags are [almost] packed.. we're ready to go.....

The time has come finally come! The Birth Attendant School 2011 is packing up and  heading into nations!  We are bringing a whopping 529lbs of medical equipment with us so as you can imagine its a lot of work to get prepared. We have spent the majority of the week going through all our supplies as we have to bring all our own things. Sterile gloves, birth kits, clamps, and of course our infamous baby hats and blankets are just some of the things we will be tugging around the world with us. We are heading off to India in the wee hours of Sunday morning.  Keep us in your prayers! They will be much appreciated as we transition into the next phase of the school!

Beate, a beautiful German midwife who now lives and practices in Tanzania came to speak on my school a couple weeks ago. She inspired us on how to not just be an incredible midwife, but how to honor the Lord with our work and how to love the women we are going to come into contact with. It was a gentle, yet powerful reminder that I am called into midwifery not just to deliver babies and help women and children, but to use this gift as a tool to evangelize to the world and to expand Gods Kingdom. If I go and just provide good health care then I am missing out on what my calling is all about.  I am going not just to save lives but also to bring Life.  I get to be with women during their most vulnerable and intimate time. This is a great privilege and incredible opportunity to share the love of God in their lives.

Beate brought me this great revelation that, as a midwife I am the first person the baby sees when it enters into this world. And that is an incredible privilege but it comes with great responsibility.  We all know that the world is not an easy place to live in. And these babies that I will be delivering are not born into ideal circumstances. But I have the privilege of meeting them first and praying abundant life over them, of blessing them, of loving them, of speaking truth over them. And this is why I am going. God has called me into something that is much bigger than myself.
I get to be a defender of life.
