long overdue

I haven't written in quite some time and I am long overdue! It has been a busy and exciting couple weeks. There is so much I would love to share but I come first with some very exciting news:
 MY OUTREACH LOCATIONS HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED.

I will be living and delivering babies in

India;

Tanzania:
and Uganda

I am excited to go into these nations and make a difference. So often we find ourselves pitying the situations that are happening in the world; starvation, homicide, suicide, genocide, abuse, neglect, lack of clean water, lack of education. We feel bad for the homeless, the penniless, the fatherless but then we just sit back down on our couches and decide to feel helpless- to feel like its too overwhelming to do anything about. but that's wrong. and if that is your view then you are part of the problem.

pregnant women in India and Africa are dying everyday at alarming rates.
The world needs midwives now than ever.
I included a view statistics on each of the countries I will be going into over the next 8 months;

India:
Total population: 1,214,464; 30
Midwives: 324,624
Number of maternal death per year: 63,000
Number of women tested for HIV: 5,717,819
Estimated workforce shortage to attain 95% skilled birth attendance by 2015:  25,620

Tanzania:
Total population: 43,739,051
Midwives:  9,000
Number of maternal deaths per 100,000:  454
Estimated workforce shortage to attain 95% skilled birth attendance by 2015:  26,000

“Tanzania is reported to be one of the top 10 contributors to the 536,000 maternal deaths and 4.4 million newborn deaths that occur worldwide. At least 13,000 pregnant and delivering women and 45,000 newborns die every year in Tanzania. That translates to 35 women and 120 newborn babies dying each day. The problem is blamed on many factors, but health experts agree that the lack of skilled midwives is one of the major challenges the country faces in its efforts to reduce maternal and child mortality rate during the birth process.”

Uganda:
Total population:  33,796;13
Midwives:  9,701
Number of maternal death per year:  6,300
Number of women tested for HIV: 968,157
Estimated workforce shortage to attain 95% skilled birth attendance by 2015:  2,021
